Flaxseed. The seed of Linum usitatissimum. Lini Farina.—Flaxseed-meal.
Compound infusion of flaxseed. (Flaxseed, oz ss; licorice-root, 3 ij; boiling water, Oj.) (Not official.)
Slippery-elm bark. The inner bark of Ulmus fulva. Mucilago Ulmi.—Mucilage of slippery-elm bark.
Licorice-root. The root of Glycyrrhiza glabra.
Ammoniated glycerin.
Pure extract of glycyrrhiza.
Fluid extract of glycyrrhiza.
Compound licorice-mixture (brown mixture). A simple expectorant containing paregoric, wine of antimony, and spirits of nitrous ether. Dose, 3 j— oz ss.
The remedies of this group contain mucilaginous constituents on which their properties depend. They are frequently prescribed as protectives in gastro-intestinal disorders, and as expectorants in bronchial affections.
