Prop. & Comp. It occurs in pearly scales, is efflorescent, and fuses at a red heat. It is sparingly soluble in cold, but is soluble in three times its weight of boiling water. Soluble in alcohol, the solution burning with a green flame. The composition is Bo3 + 3 HO. The element boron resembles carbon in many of its properties, and has an equivalent of 10.9, and is represented by the symbol B.
Use. Boracic acid is used for making a solution for qualitative analysis, it is not given as a medicine, except in the form of borax, or biborate of soda.
