Remarks
The officinal preparations are: Tinctura Benzoini; Tinc-turn Berzoini Composita; and Unguentum Benzoini. The advantages to be derived from the addition of benzoin to ointments and cerates was first prominently urged by Wilson. It tends to preserve them from ran-cidity, and in addition acts as a mild stimulant. When a little more stimulation than that afforded by the Ungt. Benzoini is desired, I sometimes employ the compound tincture of benzoin, which contains aloes.
