Every girl will naturally want a vanity case of some kind. The one shown here is not only useful and convenient, but with the type cover, very attractive. Use any thin workable wood, about 1/4" thick; possibly you have a discarded box that will do or you can use plywood. Then you should have a mirror to fit the inside of the cover and some flower print (you will find some attractive ones at the five and ten cent stores) for the outside of the cover.

A good size is 10"x12" and about 3" deep.

Method Of Procedure

Step No 1; Cut the side and end pieces square and true and to the correct length.

Step No. 2: Glue and nail the joints together, using l" common nails.

Step No. 3: Now glue and nail the bottom in place.

Step No. 4: Cut the division pieces for the inside and glue and nail these pieces in place.

Step No. 5: Take an old discarded picture frame or purchase one in the five and ten cent store; you will probably get one just the correct size of the box or make the box to fit the frame you can obtain. Put an attractive flower print in the frame and carefully back this frame with a heavy piece of cardboard.

Step No. 6: Run a sheet of cotton padding around the entire box; then cover with chintz or cretonne.

Step No. 7: Paint the inside of the box in a color to harmonize with the outside covering.

Step No. 8: Hinge the cover to the back edge.

Another attractive way of finishing the outside is by pasting wall paper (small figured design) to the outside and coat this with shellac.

Before pasting the paper on however, apply a thin coat of white shellac to the entire job and allow this toi dry. After the paper has been pasted in place and is thoroughly dry, apply one thin coat of shellac and finally one coat a little heavier.

The frame of the cover should be painted to match the inside of the box.
