The combination of a good model and a useful article is found in this problem. If the wood for the back is first planed to 18x3 3/4 1/2 inches, the blocks in which the cross-piece slides can be cut from the upper corners. The grooves should be laid out with the gauge and try square and cut out with the back-saw and chisel.
