By means of the Autoprint Postcard Holder, the production of postcards rapidly is reduced to an automatic process. This ingenious device automatically masks and holds the postcard, and is extremely simple to use.

Reproduction and the Photography of Small Objects with the Autoprint.-The Autoprint, used for these purposes is fitted up in precisely the same manner as for Enlarging. The only way in which it differs from the Enlarger is, that a specially constructed dark slide loaded with an ordinary dry plate replaces the negative holder.

This dark slide is constructed to take dry plates, cut film, Auto-chrome plates or any other sensitised materials.

Focus is Automatic, and the simplicity of making perfect results is only equalled by the certainty that they will be perfect.

The Plate Holder

This holds one plate 31/2 x 21/2 or 1/4-plate according to which model is being used. The most suitable plate for reproduction, copying and photographing small objects is one having a speed of about 45 H. and D., the fine grain of the slow plate being a particular advantage, and speed is not required.

When inserting the holder in the Autoprint, care should be taken to see that the square flange fits nicely into the frame of the Autoprint. (Early models of the Autoprint may require some adjustment.)

The manner in which the plate holder is used is the same for Reproduction, Copying, and the Photographing of objects.

Illumination should be arranged to fall as evenly as possible on the object to be photographed or reproduced. It can consist of standard lamps suitably placed, but the adjustable brackets illustrated are very convenient.

Reproducing

Manuscripts, plans, drawings, page from books, old photographs, and illustrations of all kinds can be reproduced with the No. 1 on a 31/2 x 21/2 plate, and with the No. 2 on a 1/4-plate. The maximum size of the article to be reproduced is 15 x 12 inches with the No. 1, and 20 x 16 inches with the No. 2. Reference to the table will show the various sizes, etc.

Example with No. 2 Autoprint. Two pages are to be reproduced from a book measuring 15 x 12 inches when open.

A margin round is required.

The book and margin will occupy the 20 x 16 inches or the largest space, and the Autoprint must therefore be set at No. 1, at which position it is correctly focussed for all pictures etc. over 15 x 12 ins. in size. Place the open book centrally on the baseboard.

When ready, cap the lens and insert the loaded plate holder as already described. Decide on the exposure you intend to give, pull out the shutter of the plate holder and remove the cap. When exposure is complete replace the cap, switch off the light, remove the plate from the plate holder and proceed with developing.
