[Icel.] A tidal flood which rushes into certain rivers of peculiar configuration, and is dangerous to shipping, as at the mouth of the Amazon, the Hoogly, and the Tsien-tang; also the flow of the tide in the Bay of Fundy'and in Hang-chow Bay.
