[Fr., from h-fcx?, a fig-tree.] A small fruit-tree of from 12 to 20 feet high, with large leaves. The fig is a native of Syria, and grows wild on the Mediterranean coast. It bears two crops annually , and when the fruit is picked it is spread out to dry. Fig-cake is used in the East instead of bread.
