The name of a small tree or shrub and of its fruit, sometimes called lotus. The tree is a native of Syria, and is now cultivated in many parts of Asia and in Europe, chiefly for its fruit, which is dried as a sweetmeat. The common jujube paste is really a mixture of gum arabic and sugar, slightly colored.
