The navy yards of the United States are eight in number. They are Portsmouth, Portsmouth, N. H., Charlestown, Boston, Mass., New York, Brooklyn, N. Y., League Island, Philadelphia, Pa., Washington, Washington, D. C.f Norfolk, Norfolk, Va., Pensacola, Pensacola, Fla., and Mare Island, San Francisco, Cal. There are also five naval stations -New London, Conn., Port Royal, S. C, Key West, Fla., Sackett's Harbor N. Y., and Brie, Pa.
