Golden-Rod, the Common OR Wound-wort, Solidago Vir-gaurea, L. an indigenous perennial plant, growing in woods, hedges heaths, and copses ; and flowering from July to September. This plant was formerly offici-nal, and is still in great repute among country people, for its medicinal virtues ; but we are inclin-ed to think, it may with greater advantage be employed as a dyeing drug. Both its leaves and flowers impart a beautiful yellow colour; which, according to Bechstein, is even superior to that obtained from woad.
