Crimes are usually divided into three classes, according to their grades, namely: - treason, felony, and misdemeanor. This is Blackstone's classification and from his time to the present has been followed by all other distinguished writers on criminal law. But for practical purposes, in this country, criminal offenses may be divided into two classes: felonies and misdemeanors, for the reason that treason is a felony.
