Closely allied to contracts of sale are bailments which transfer the possession of the goods without transferring the title. Sir William Jones, the first important writer on this branch of the law, defines a bailment as "A delivery of goods in trust on a contract expressed or implied, that the trust shall be duly executed and the goods redelivered as soon as the time or use for which they are bailed shall have elapsed or be performed." Bailments is the twelfth subject treated in this work and will be found in Volume V.
