The next time you are taking a long ride in your car, on the train, or in a bus, try this game. The object of the game is to find the letters of the alphabet in order. Look for them on the signs you pass-on mail boxes, over stores, or on street and road signs. Those on one side of the car must take letters on that side; and the others use letters on the opposite side. The first person to reach Z-without skipping a letter-wins the game.

Another good game to play while out riding is this one, where you watch for animals. Every kind of animal counts five, except a white horse and a black cat. (The cat must be seated in a window.) These two count fifty.-This game can go on as long as you like, and the person with the largest score wins.

Watch the numbers on the cars you pass, and starting with "1" see how high you can go. When you reach two and three figure numbers, they must be together. (For instance, if you want 16, you could count it from a number plate of 16593, but not from 18936.)

A Game Of Croquet Indoors

This came of croquet is played on a rug-a smooth one, and marbles or ping pong balls are used. Each wicket is made of two spools, and the ends of a strip of paper put in the top holes-making an arch. Two small bottles will do for stakes, and a ruler makes a good mallet to hit the balls.

If you are using marbles, have each player take a different color; and with ping pong balls, mark a spot of color on each one with a crayon. When there are not enough spools to make as many wickets as you would like, put only one in front of each stake, and one on each side of the middle wicket.

This is the way the came is played-in case you have never played outdoor croquet: Each player takes turns and goes from post to post and back again-through the wickets in a certain order, which is given in the diagram below. Extra turns are given by going through a wicket, hitting another player s ball, or hitting the stake-when you come to it. The first one who brings his ball back to the post where he started-after going through all the wickets-is the winner.

Things To Do When It Snows

Did you know that each snowflake is a little star? When you have a snowstorm, put a dark piece of cloth on the window sill and watch the flakes as they land. Some are beautiful, and each one will be different.

When the snow is fresh and soft, and you are dressed in your snowsuit, try making angels on the untouched surfaces. All you have to do is lie on your back, and with your arms out straight, slide them up and down on the snow. Get up carefully, and see the print you have made.

Fox and geese is one of the nicest games to play in the snow. It is a game of tag, and may be played with any number of people.

Make paths in the snow-first in a circle, and then like cross spokes.

The Fox who is "It" tries to catch one of the other players. (The players are the Geese.) No one may run out of the paths, and the only spot in which he is safe- where he can not be tagged-is in the center of the circle.

Two Circle Games

I packed my bag is fun to play, and requires a good memory. The game is started by one player saying, "I packed my bag, and in it I put -." telling what he puts in. The next player repeats what the first has said and adds something more to put in. The third player continues by saying the whole sentence and including what he puts in. This goes on and on around the group, each person having to remember just what has been put in the bag, and in the right order; adding something new. The first mistake means that player is out of the game. Keep the game going until only one person is left who remembers all that has been packed.

Bird beast or fish is a quick thinking game. One person stands in the middle of a circle, calls one of these words, and then quickly counts to ten. He points his finger at someone when he begins to count, and that player must name an animal from the group called. His answer must come before ten is reached. For example: the leader calls "Fish," and then starts to count. Before he comes to the number ten, the person to whom he has pointed must give the name of a fish, (cod, salmon etc.) If he is slow in answering, and the counting is over before he thinks of a fish, he has to stand up and be the caller-giving his seat to the one who caught him.

Two Ways To Play Hop Scotch

This game is played with small stones, or bits of glass. The plan can be laid out on a cement walk, a pavement, or a floor. Be sure no one objects to the chalk marks. The first player drops his stone in the first section, hops in on one foot, picks it up, and hops back. When he reaches 3 he may hop with one foot in 2 and the other in 3; then he makes a hop to turn around, changing feet so that he is facing toward 1. He does the same kind of hop for 8 and 9.-Stepping on lines is forbidden, and only one foot is allowed in each square. The second time around, the stone must be thrown over the shoulder-standing back to the lines. Each stone must always land in the right section, or the player misses his turn. The first player to finish is the winner.

This game is played without any stones or glass. The first player hops on one foot from square to square, up and then down. If he can reach the last square without stepping on a single line, or losing his balance, (He is allowed to rest on the marked resting places,) he may put his initials in any square he wishes. Each player does the same, but must skip over the square that has been marked with another player's initials. He may rest on his own. Stepping on lines is not allowed, and if a player does this, he misses his turn to put down his initials. At the end of the game, the one with the most squares wins.
