Strips cut lengthwise or crosswise, 1½ inch wide, heated uniformly to a low cherry red, and cooled in water of about 80° Fahrenheit, must stand bending double in a press to a curve of which the inner radius is one and a half times the thickness of the steel tested. Such other tests as may be considered necessary by the inspector to determine the quality of the steel plates are also to be carried out. Samples will be taken as often and in such a manner as the inspector may consider necessary, and in the event of a sample proving unsatisfactory, it will be in the power of the inspector to reject the whole of the steel represented by such sample.
