Deciduous shrubs parasitic on roots of surrounding plants. Twigs rather large, terete, pubescent when young; pith large, rounded. Buds ovoid, brown. Leaf-scars alternate, rounded; bundle-traces 3; stipules none. In addition to the leaf-scars, there are conspicuous branch-scars, formed by self-pruning of young twigs, in which the bundle-traces are numerous, in an ellipse.
