Take one to two yeast cakes, dissolve in one quart of water of the right temperature Now mix in enough flour to make a medium stiff sponge, let rise until light or until you can see blubbers come up and burst, it will then be ready to make dough, put into this sponge one quart of water, be sure to get right temperature, while adding the water. Thoroughly mix the sponge, then add one-half cup sugar, tablespoon salt, and half cup of soft or melted lard. Now mix in enough flour to make a firm dough.
