The list of so-called remedies in which alcohol largely enters is constantly changing. Old preparations are losing their vogue and dropping out. Increasing numbers of new preparations are coming forward. Their virtues are set forth in elaborate advertisements carried by newspapers and magazines. Natural scenery bordering the great arteries of travel is defaced by them. Desperate humanity turns to these nostrums with a ray of hope on which the cunning advertiser relies to induce the sufferer to buy. The blasted hopes sadden the last hours of the victim. If he gets well he has a thirst for alcohol that often leads him to ruin.
