It is of the utmost importance in the proper naming of coffees from different countries that the exact area which is covered by a given name should be known.

For the purposes of the enactment of the Food and Drugs Act information has been sought from competent authorities respecting the application of the terms Mocha and Java. Many high-grade coffees not coming from the distinct region in Arabia or the Island of Java, in fact often coming from other countries, have been called by these names. In order that a proper restriction could be placed upon these names, the Bureau of Chemistry after consulting the best authorities accessible, has made the following rules respecting the area in which coffee entitled to the names of Mocha and Java may be produced:
