Nee Lady Mary Lygon, daughter of the late Earl Beauchamp, Lady Ampthill, one of the new Ladies of the Bedchamber, married Lord Ampthill in 1894. The wedding was one of the social events of that year, and both Queen Victoria and King Edward sent gifts, for Lord Beauchamp was connected with the Court most intimately for many years. When Lord Ampthill was Governor of Madras and Acting-viceroy, Lady Ampthill proved an ideal Governor's wife. Lady Ampthill is one of the few ladies holding the Order of the Crown of India, and she also possesses another coveted Indian decoration in the Kaiser-i-hind gold medal. Lady Ampthill, like all her family, is clever, well-read, and rather serious-minded. She is the mother of five children-four sons and one daughter.
