No. 261. - This is a hardy annual. The root leaves are put forth horizontally, and spread regularly about a common center, somewhat in the form of a rosette. The plant is cultivated for its leaves, which are used as a salad. They should be plucked while young and tender, or when half-grown.

No. 262. - It succeeds best in soil comparatively light. Sow in April in shallow drills, eight inches apart. When the plants are about an inch high thin them to four inches apart.
