1 1/2 quarts dried and sifted crumbs 1/4 cup shortening 1/3 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon salt

3/4 quart boiling water 3/4 quart milk 12 eggs, well beaten 1 1/4 quarts barley flour 1/3 cup baking powder

Mix crumbs, shortening, salt, sugar, and boiling water; when cool add well-beaten eggs, milk, and flour which has been sifted with baking powder. Beat well. Bake as other muffins, but longer. Makes sixty medium or fifty large muffins.
