This grows 1-1½ ft. high, with spoon-shaped leaves and deep purple-crimson flowers from June to September. It is usually treated as a hardy annual. Other kinds are C. discolor, 1 ft., rose red; 0. oppositifolia, tuberous rooted, with white or bluish flowers; and 0. umbellata, 6 in. high, with brilliant magenta-crimson flowers.
