The Hickories are fine deciduous North American trees, 30-70 ft. high, with Walnut-like leaves. They are easily raised from seeds, best sown in small pots for sale, as taproots make transplanting difficult. The wood is of great value for many purposes, and the trees themselves are highly ornamental. The best-known kinds are alba, amara, microcarpa, olivoeformis, porcina, and tomentosa.
