We are pleased to note that the suggestion made in times past to plant something with barbed wire hedges so as to hold the wires when the posts rot away, thus combining barbed wire and live fencing, received the endorsement of many speakers at the December meeting of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. A paper by J. J. Thomas especially advocated it. On this plan we have a perpetually protective hedge, and it will not matter so much whether we have skilled labor or not for the pruning. No matter how cut, the hedge will always be safe from intruders.
