1. The operator faces the patient. The arms are stretched forward on a level with the shoulders, palms meeting in front ; they are taken out sideways on the same level, and returned to same position. On the outward movement, resistance is given with operator's fingers at the back of the wrist ; in the return movement the resistance is given on the front of the wrist.
2. Operator stands at the side ; arms are moved singly. The arms hang by the sides, palms forward ; the forearm is flexed, then extended. Resistance on front of wrist in flexion, on back of wrist in extension.
3. Operator faces patient. Arms in same position as in No. 2. They are carried outward and upward till the thumbs meet over head. Resistance on the radial border in the outer and upward movement, and on the ulnar border, in the return movement, to first position. In all upward, outward, and forward movements the resistance is on the radial border, and in the return movements on the ulnar border.
4. The second phalanx of the fingers and the ends of the thumbs are placed in contact at the lower part of the abdomen ; they are raised till over the head, then returned. Resistance as above.
5. Arms hang by sides, palms inwards ; they are stretched forwards, then upwards to sides of head ; they are returned in the same way. Resistance.
6. The same as No. 1, but with hands clenched.
7. The same as No. 2, but with hands clenched and palmar surface turned out.
8. Operator standing at side. Circumduction of arms, singly. Resistance.
9. Operator stands behind, patient. Arms hang by the sides, palms inward ; they are carried backward and upward as far as possible. Resistance is made on the ulnar border, and on the return on the radial border.
