The violent pains which continue after the child is born, may generally be abated by drinking plentifully of the decoction of camomile flowers, in the manner of tea. If the labour has been hard, give an ounce and a half of fresh oil of sweet almonds in a draught of it hot. A dram of the yellow part of orange peel, given for a dose, is likewise very good: or the following bolus;

"Take twenty grains of sperma ceti, five grains of volatile salt of hartshorn, five drops of balsam of Peru, thirty grains "of Venice treacle, and make them into a bolus, with the "syrup of white popies." Give it soon after delivery.
