A physician said to me on one occasion, "Can you hypnotize this boy so that I can catheterize him." He had acute gonorrhea, and was having a catheter used twice a day in order to relieve his full bladder, which he was not able to relieve in the usual way. Hypnosis was induced, and suggestion given to relieve the psychoneurotic element, and when he awoke he urinated without catheterization and continued to do so thereafter.
