Alumen, Alum, in large dose (3i) emetic. Moderate doses (5 to IS gr.) astringent, used in night sweats and diarrhea. Locally, astringent, and styptic. In small doses (I gr.) has been used with reputed success in whooping cough where there is excessive expectoration and in the bronchial catarrhs of the aged.
