Sulfonal. A coal-tar hypnotic that, in my judgment, should be rarely used, but it does possess a place in the insomnia of alcoholics and certain types of insanity. Give from I5 to 30 gr. in hot water two or three hours before sleep is desired, but do not be alarmed if its action is somewhat erratic or some disagreeable symptoms arise. The fact that it is tasteless renders it eligible in some cases, but in general it is a rather unreliable drug.
