Take arsenious acid, 14 ounces; caustic soda, 7 ounces; water, 20 ounces; carbolic acid, sufficient to render the fluid, after stirring, opalescent. Then add water enough to make 100 ounces. Mix well. - Morell.

Strong liquid ammonia (sp. gr. O, 882) is always useful as a preservative. Twenty to thirty minims diffused in a pint jar well closed, will preserve anatomical parts for many years.

Dissolve the tannin first in the spirit; add the benzoin and the collodion, and finally drop in the zinc chloride in very small pieces and slowly, until a complete solution of it is secured. This preparation is laid on to the structure with a brush. Very little of it is required.

Pure beechwood creasote....................... x Amyl hydride (sp. gr. O 620) ............ ℥ j Let the creasote dissolve in the hydride; stop the bottle well, and keep in a cold place.
In using this solution, it is only necessary to pour a little of it on the specimen to be preserved, and then gently blow with the warm breath over the part where the solution has been laid. The light amyl hydride (rhigolene), which boils at 88° Fahr. will all evaporate instantly, and leave the creasote in a state of the finest subdivision, on the structure. - Ibid.
When a substance is already somewhat tainted and requires to be deodorized. 4932.
Iodine.............gr. v
Amyl hydride (sp. gr. O. 620).............. ℥ j
Let the iodine dissolve, close the bottle firmly and keep in a cool place.
In using the solution, pour a little on the specimen and blow gently to evaporate the hydride. The iodine will be left in a state of fine subdivision, and will quickly deodorize. - Ibid.
