Uses.- It has been used externally as an application to ringworm, and as a counter-irritant in scrofulous enlargement of the glands. It has been given internally in enlarged glands, and in chronic enlargement of the spleen. In the latter case the iodine may be supposed to have a beneficial effect upon the corpuscles of the spleen, and the lead to cause contraction by acting upon the involuntary muscular fibre of the organ.

The ointment is used for enlarged glands.
