Latin, Catechu (Gen., Catechu)
Eng., Catechu. An extract prepared from the wood of Acacia catechu.
The U. S. P. of 1900 dropped Catechu and adopted Gambir in its place, owing to the greater uniformity of the latter.
Principally in the treatment of diarrhea.
Catechu in the form of the tincture is still prescribed by the profession.
