Latin, Serpentaria
Eng., Serpentaria. Synonyms, Virginia. Snakeroot, Texas Snakeroot. The dried rhizome and roots of Aristolochia serpentaria or of A. reticulata.
15 grains (1 Gm.). Serpentaria is also contained in the Compound Tincture of Cinchona.
Classed as a bitter tonic, expectorant, diuretic.
It is sometimes used as an adjuvant and corrective for other agents in the treatment of anorexia, indigestion, etc., and in the treatment of bronchitis and related conditions. Seldom prescribed.
