Latin, Senna
Eng., Senna. The dried leaflets of Cassia acuti-folia or of C. angustifolia.
1 drachm (4 Gm.).
Eng., Fluidextract of Senna. Average Dose.-30 minims (2 mils).
Eng., Compound Infusion of Senna. Synonym, Black Draught. Represents 6 per cent. of Senna with Manna, Fennel and Magnesium Sulphate.
4 fluidounces (120 mils).
Eng., Syrup of Senna. Represents 25 per cent. of the drug.
1 fluidrachm (4 mils).
Senna is also contained in Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla and Compound Powder of Glycyrrhiza.
Purgative.
Senna is a popular remedy of the laity and is a constituent of many of the proprietary laxatives and"Liver Medicines." Not often prescribed.
