The author has selected a few of the newer remedies as illustra tions of the non-official materia medica. In his selection he has been guided by two considerations, the degree of popularity that the drugs enjoy and the likelihood of their proving to be permanently useful. Examples of some of the non-official methods of galenical preparation such as the elixers have also been included as it was considered that they would be of use to the student. The arrangement of these drugs is the same as in the proceeding chapter and the source for them has largely been the British Pharmaceutical Codex.
