Q. I have read so much about plumbing apprenticeship in your valuable paper that I would like to know under what conditions I could get into the Trade-schools. If you would be kind enough to inform me I would be ever so much obliged to you.

A. No examination is required to be passed in order to enter the schools. The management prefers that the pupil should not be too old to begin learning a trade, nor too young to appreciate the instruction - say not under sixteen nor over twenty-five at most. But no hard-and-fast rule exists, and doubtless any one who showed that he was capable of improving himself would be admitted. The charge for instruction in the New York Trade-schools is $3 a month, or $10 for the full course. We would advise our correspondent by all means to call at the Trade-schools and see the manager. A personal interview will in a few minutes give him all the information he needs, and he can then decide for himself what he will do. The schools are located on First Avenue, between Sixty-seventh and Sixty-eighth Streets, and are open until ten p. m.
