Make this handy little article for holding your correspondence, bills and the like. This model is so simple that you can make most of it with a jackknife.

Use any soft wood for making this letter file; the wood should be about thick. A good size for this model is 4"x5" and 21/2" deep.

Step No. 1: Cut out four pieces, one for the bottom, two for the front and back pieces and one for the partition.

Step No. 2: Lay off the curved design at the corners and then with a sharp knife, cut this outline on the front, back and partition pieces.

Step No. 3: Thoroughly sandpaper all parts smooth and free from any imperfections. Fold the sandpaper over a scrap block of wood while doing the sandpapering. This will insure flat surfaces, without any irregularities.

Step No. 4: Glue and nail the different pieces together.

Step No. 5: Let us finish this letter file in a light color of paint or lacquer and then apply an ornamental transfer design to the front piece. If paint is used, first apply a thin coat of white shellac to the model, then a coat of oil paint mixing one-half raw linseed oil and one-half turpentine with just a little drier; the second coat should be a flat paint. If you decide to finish the file with lacquer, apply this after the coat of shellac. Follow the directions given on the can.

Miscellaneous: A piece of felt glued to the bottom will prevent scratching any choice piece of furniture on which you may place this model.
