Clothes driers are installed in apartment houses for the purpose of drying clothes when the weather is such as to prevent the clothes being hung out of doors. These driers are heated either by steam or gas, and should have steam coils in the bottom, with a grating above to protect the clothes from being burned by the coil. Where gas is used, a similar protection should be adopted. A combination gas and steam drier is most desirable, as in winter time the use of steam heats the drier at little or no expense to the owner, whereas in the summer the gas has less demand upon it, and the drier costs but little to maintain.
