Freeborn Garrettson, an American clergyman, born in Maryland in 1752. died in New York, Sept. 26; 1827. He entered the Methodist ministry in 1775, travelled extensively in several of the states, and in 1784 went as a missionary to Nova Scotia. In 1788 he com-raenced his labors in the state of New York. In 1791 he married Miss Livingston of Rhine-beck, and confined his subsequent labors to New York, where he was eminently successful. He was a very popular preacher, and emancipated a number of slaves. At his death he made provision in his will for the perpetual support of a missionary.
