Another variety of mixed drinks is that listed under the name of punch. The term "punch" is applied to any alcoholic mixture in which fruits, aromatics and other substances of a similar character are combined with alcohol. The common idea of a punch is one made with wine as a basis, together with plain or carbonated water, sugar and fruit juices, mostly of citrous fruits or fragments of fruits of various kinds, such as pineapple and orange. Another punch is made using sparkling wine as the basis, commonly known as champagne punch. A plain fruit juice punch is now coming into vogue, which contains no alcohol, made chiefly of grape juice, pineapple juice and lemon juice, with sugar and water.
