There are large areas of our country producing grapes in great profusion, and which are of a character, to some extent, resembling that of the product of Charente. The wine which is made from such grapes usually is thin of body, acid in taste, and of a general character like those produced in Charente. If these grapes, which grow so abundantly in may parts of the country, especially in New York and Ohio, were properly distilled into a brandy and kept for a sufficient length of time, they would in time, in my opinion make a brandy of most excellent character, and one which would commend itself with great favor to the people in general.
