You should have sent us a frond of the Fern with spores on it. We think it is Asplenium Adiantum nigrum var. acutum.

We cannot, without a flower sent with it, say what the other plant is.

We find Shanks's Mowing Machine stands hard work as well as any we know.

Daphne Rupestris

A very dwarf-growing Daphne, of rare excellence both as regards perfume and decorative qualities. It forms a dense compact carpet of dark-green foliage, which is quite obscured in its flowering season by the profusion of its soft rose-coloured flowers, which are produced in terminal clusters, and are larger than those of the lovely D. eneorum.

Your Seedling Grape very much resembles Buckland's Sweetwater in appearance, but it is much superior in flavour. As you say it is an early variety, it is likely to be a useful Grape. We would advise you to submit it another season to some public test.

Delphinium Bella Donna

This, though not a new plant, is one deserving the highest recommendation. It is of very free growth, and an abundant bloomer; and whether planted singly or in a mass, is one of the most effective plants in cultivation. The colour is sky-blue, and it forms an excellent contrast to the deeper-coloured kinds.

Mr Cowan's compensating system of heating does not save so very much of coal; but it manufactures sufficient lime to pay for the coal, and heats hothouses at the same time. We saw it at work at the great show at Manchester, and believe it to be all that Mr Cowan represents it to be.

Dianthus Hybridus Maria Pare

This is a beautiful pure-white mule-pink, which should be in every garden. The flowers are large and very freely produced, and it is invaluable for either border-decoration or for cut-flowers. It is a very vigorous grower.
