A valued correspondent recently gave us a list of the best roses. The following list is by Mr. Lane, one of the largest English growers next to Mr. Rivers: Hybrid Perpetual Roses - Deep crimsons, the new rose, General Jacqueminot, Geant des Batailles, and Empereur Napoleon III Of pink and rose-colored varieties, Jules Margottln, Madame Damage, Chereau, Madame de Cambaceres, Madame Hector Jacqueler, Duchess of Norfolk, Comtesse Valllant, Colonel de Rougemont, and Baramee Heckeren, are among the best. Of Bourbons, Apolline, Aurora de Guide, Francois Henrioq, Louis Odier, Sir J. Paxton, and Souvenir de la Malmaison. Tea-aeented, Adam, Caaari, Comte de Paris, Devoniensis, Gloire do Dijon, Madame de fit. Joseph, Madame Melanie Wtilemorz, Moire, Nareiase, Souvenir d'un Ami, and Vioomtesse de Cazes, are all very beautiful.

The Best Roses #1

A few months since, a circular was addressed to the principal nurserymen and florists of Rochester, N. Y., by the editors of the American Rural Home, asking for the names of a dozen of the best hardy roses, easily grown, free blooming, and representing as far as possible the different colors, shades, tints and merits. The list was responded to by seven parties, and the votes appeared in the following order of popularity:
