Put into a wide mouth, two ounce vial, shake it, and allow it to stand for three hours. This is applied with remarkable success.

Take one part of fine corhmon salt, two parts of pulverized ice, mix quickly and thoroughly. Place the mixture in a thin gauze netting, and lay upon the part to be benumbed. Ordinarily from fifteen minutes to half an hour will be required to produce the desired anaesthetic effect.

Pour drop by drop on the part, and make to evaporate quickly; or apply by a spray apparatus.

Carbolic Acid

Soak the part, when practicable, in a three per cent, solution of carbolic acid for fifteen miuutes, and then draw a brush dipped in pure acid along the line of the incision.
