First Stage - Before pus begins to appear, when the discharge is watery, mixed with serum and undissolved epithelium use the following:

℞ Sodii chloridi..........3 ij
Aquae destillatae.........oij
Hydrargyri bichloridi ............ gr. j
M. S. Use as a wash for the eye every half hour.
Second Stage - Lids swollen, cedema of the ocular conjunctiva, discharge becoming purulent; use the wash every twenty minutes, following each application with the following: 5533.
℞ Pulveris acidi borici....... 3 ss
Petrolati............ ℥ ss
Cocainae muriatis........gr. x
M. Make into an ointment. S. To be applied to the edges of the eye-lids, after each cleansing. This prevents agglutination from inspissated matter in the lash.
Third Stage - Active discharge of pus, no bloody serum being present; same wash as above in the manner directed for the second stage, and the following: 5534.

Aquae destillatae......... ℥ j
M. S. Drop into the eye after cleansing, every four hours. - Dudley Reynolds, M. D.
