Incompatibles, the hydrate, carbonate, sulphate, phosphate, oxalate, and tartrate are insoluble and in consequence soluble calcium salts are incompatible with the acids of these salts or with soluble salts of the same.
1Calcii Chloridum. Dose, 5 - 15 grs.; 3 - 10 dgms. CaCl2, 2H20. White very deliquescent masses, with a bitter acrid taste. Soluble 1 in 1 of water; 1 in 3 of alcohol.
2Calcii Hydras. Calcium Hydrate. (Slaked Lime.) Ca(OH)2. Must be freshly prepared by the action of calcium oxide and water. Soluble 1 in 900 of water.
1Liquor Calcis (Lime Water). Dose, 1-4 fl. oz.; 30 -120 c.c. Made by shaking calcium hydroxide with water and decanting, 1/2 gr. of lime in 1 fl. oz.
1Linimentum Calcis. (Caron Oil.) Equal parts of Lime Water and Olive Oil shaken together.
2Liquor Calcis Saccharatus. Saccharated Solution of Lime. Dose, 20 - 60 min.; 1 - 4 c.c.
- 5; Sugar, 10; Water to 100. Shake and decant the clear fluid. 8 grs. in 1 fl. oz.
2Calcii Hypophosphis. Dose, 3 - 10 grs.; 2 - 6 dgms. Ca(PH2O2)2. A white powder or lustrous crystals, odourless and having a nauseous taste. Soluble 1 in 8 of water; insoluble in alcohol.
Incompatibles, as for calcium, and also chlorates, mercuric salts, bismuth subnitrate, ferric salts, quinine, strong acids, (the acid solution of arsenic); explodes if triturated with oxidizing agents.
3Calcii Phosphas. Dose, 5 - 15 grs.; 3 - 10 dgms. A light white amorphous powder. Insoluble in water; soluble in acetic, hydrochloric or nitric acids.
2Calx. Lime. (Burnt Lime. Calcium Oxide.) CaO. Compact whitish masses.
2Calx Chlorinata. Chlorinated Lime. A mixture containing the hydrate, chloride, and hypochlorite of calcium. A dull whitish powder with a characteristic smell. Decomposes on exposure to the air. Partially soluble in water.
3Liquor Calcis Chlorinatse. (Bleaching Liquid.) - 10; Water to 100.
3Calx Sulphurata. Sulphurated Lime Dose, 1/4 - 1 gr.; 15 - 60 mgms.
A mixture containing about 50 % of calcium sulphide with calcium sulphate and carbon. A greyish white powder with a smell of hydrogen sulphide.
1Creta Preparata. Dose, 10 - 60 grs.; 1/2 - 4 gms. Native calcium carbonate, freed from most of its impurities by elutri-ation. White friable masses or white powder.
1Mistura Cretae. Chalk Mixture. Dose 1/2 - 1 fl. oz.; 15 - 30 c.c. - 3.125; Tragacanth, 0.44.; Sugar, 6.25; Cinnamon Water to 100. In 1 fl. oz. 14 grs. of chalk.
1Purvis Cretae Aromaticus. Dose, 10-60 grs.; 1/2 - 4 gms. - 24.2; Cinnamon Bark, 8.8; Nutmeg, 6.6; Cloves, 3.3; Cardamons, 2.2; Sugar, 55.
1Pulvis Cretae Aromaticus cum Opio. Dose, 10 - 40 grs.; 6-25 dgms. - 97.5; Opium, 2.5. 1 gr. of Opium in 40 grs.
3Syrupus Calcii Lactophosphatis. Dose, 30-60 min.; 2 - 4 c.c. Precipitated Calcium Carbonate, 2.5; Lactic Acid, 6.0; Phosphoric Acid Concentrated, 4.6; Sugar, 70.0; Orange-flower Water, 2.5; Water to 100.
Calumbae Radix. Calumba Root. The dried transversely cut slices of the root of Jateorhiza Calumba. In irregular flattish, roughly circular, yellowish slices, about 1-2 or more inches in diameter, and 1/8 - 1/2 or more of an inch thick, odour feeble, taste bitter. As this bitter contains no tannin it may be given with iron, acids, or alkalies.
1Infusum Calumbae. Dose, 1/2 - 1 fl. oz.; 15 - 30 c.c. - 5; Water, 20.
3Liquor Calumbae Concentratus. Dose, 30 - 60 min.; 2 - 4 c.c. - 50; Alcohol, 22.5; Water to 100: by maceration.
1Tinctura Calumbae. Dose, 30 - 60 min.; 2 - 4 c.c. - 10; Alcohol 60% to 100: by maceration.
Cambogia. Gamboge. Dose, 1/2 - 3 grs.; 3-12 cgms. A gum-resin obtained from Garcinia Hamburii. Cylindrical, longitudinally striated rolls, often agglutinated into masses; colour reddish-yellow; odourless; taste acrid. Insoluble in water but forms with it an emulsion; soluble in weak alcohol.
Pilula Cambogiae Composita. Dose, 4 - 8 grs.; 2 1/2 - 5 gms. (in 1 or 2 pills).
- 16.5; Barbadoes Aloes, 16.5; Compound Cinnamon Powder, 16.5; Hard Soap, 33.0; Syrup of Glucose, q.s. (about 16). Each pill contains about 2/3 gr. of aloes and of gamboge.
