Carpet, a covering for floors, etc. manufactured of wool, or other materials, and worked with the needle, or in a loom. The carpets in the greatest estimation are those of Persia and Turkey 5 but a manufactory has been established at Paris, where they are made in the same manner as the true Persian carpets, to which they are little inferior. There is also a good sort made in Germany; these are often embellished with silk, and some are even made of dogs' hair. In England, carpets are manufactured of a superior quality; the most elegant and valuable of which are those known by the name of Brussels.
