The Twelfth Census reports that in the year 1900 there were 5,737 372 farms in the United States, and of these 4,514,210 had dairy cows. Where a farm was found upon which at least 40 per cent, of the value of annual products was from dairy products, it was classified as a dairy farm. The total quantity of milk produced on farms in this country, during the year 1890, was 7,266,392,674 gallons, or, in round numbers, 62,500,000,000 pounds.
