To the foregoing may be added acorns and horse chestnuts, recently examined by Baker and Hulton.1 In both cases the yield of alcohol was about 27 per cent, of the dried peeled kernels, corresponding with about 12 per cent, of the fresh material (deprived of the outer green shell). The starch of the peeled acorns was 43.4 - 44.3 per cent., and of the chestnuts, 15.2 - 39.0 per cent. The total sugars were: Acorns, 6.8-8.3; chestnuts, 10.6 - 20.2 per cent.
